Things worth paying attention to
Not a list of reasons to rule a home out. These are signals worth investigating further — during a call, a tour, or after you have moved in — not verdicts by themselves.
- Pressure to sign immediately, or a discount that expires if you do not decide today.
- Pricing that stays vague even after you ask directly and more than once.
- Vague or shifting answers about what happens when care needs increase.
- Reluctance to discuss staffing levels or how long direct-care staff have been there.
- Difficulty getting a straight answer about who actually provides care overnight.
- A noticeable gap between what a salesperson tells you and what the written contract says.
- Fees that appear or change without a clear explanation of why.
- Unwillingness to let you speak with anyone actually responsible for day-to-day care.
- Answers that change depending on who at the facility you ask.
One red flag doesn’t tell you whether a home is good or bad.
It tells you what to investigate.
